If you are looking for the Flat Screen TVs, which one will you choose, Plasma or LCD TV? It can make a confusion because both Plasma and LCD offers excellent picture quality. Many people don’t realize that LCD and Plasma TV also has very significant differences. To avoid taking a wrong choice, you need to know well the differences among LCD and Plasma TV as explained below.

Both Flat Screen TVs, Plasma and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) generally look similar but actually they use different technologies. The Plasma uses gas plasma that light up and create a picture when charged by precise electrical voltages. LCD’s picture is produced by liquid crystals that sandwiched between two glass plates and create images by varying the amount of electrical charge applied to the crystals.

Here are basic differences among LCD and Plasma TV.

  1. From both of Flat Screen TVs, Plasma TVs are priced relatively less than LCD especially in the large screen segment.
  2. Power consumption of LCD TVs about 30% less than Plasma TVs.
  3. LCD has a higher native resolution than plasma TVs of the same size, it means LCD has sharper images and make it a better choice for HDTV.
  4. Generally, LCD TV is lighter than similar sized Plasma.
  5. Plasma can display blacks more accurately than LCD. Pictures in a Plasma TV have richer contrast and better detail especially in dark movies scenes.
  6. Among the Flat Screen TVs, Plasma TV can produce brighter color.
  7. Plasma TV has better viewing angles than LCD TV
  8. Plasma TVs are more prone to screen burn-ins compared to LCDs

When handling the Flat Screen TVs, special care must be taken especially when touching or cleaning the screens. If the thin sheets of glass which hold the Plasma cells crack, the screen ruin and cannot be repaired!

You will need these simple guidances to protect your Flat Screen TVs from damage:

1. Don’t touch the screen

Keep in mind not to touch the Flat Screen TVs’ screen; don’t rub, scrub, tap, hit or touch it to avoid the screen from the permanently damage of scratches.

2. Clean the Screen Correctly

Do not use chemical cleansers, soaps or alcohol, just use the special or recommended screen cleaner. Before begin cleaning the screen, better unplug the Flat Screen TVs from electrical outlet.

3. Keep The Plasma TV Upright

Even you can do it carefully, never lay your Plasma flat on it’s face! The plasma elements that make up the picture are sandwiched between two thin layers of glass, if these glass panels crack, your Flat TV will be ruined.
