This article is meant to be a quick reference to Flat Screen TV, LCD Television and Plasma Television. Of course it isn’t a complete guidance to make you a master in a seconds, but it will send you to a new better perception of Flat Screen TV.

LCD Flat Screens

Unlike the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube), there is no tube anymore in LCD Flat Screen TV. It works by trapping a liquid crystal solution between two sheets of polarized glass. That’s why It light and thin. Size range up to 50 inch.

Plasma Flat Screens

It looks like a LCD Flat Screen TV, but it uses gas. Using of gas instead liquid crystal make the Plasma Television has possibility to catch a very big size up to 150 inch.

HD Broadcasting

Stands for High-Definition Broadcasting. It uses 1.080 or 720 scan lines

Scan Lines

In CRT (Cathode-Ray-Tube) and Flat Screen TV, scan lines refer to the paths of the light beams irradiated (scanned) by electron guns, starting from the upper left corner and ending at the lower right corner of the screen. The higher the number of scan lines, the more detailed the displayed image.

HD Ready

High Definition Ready or HD Ready refers to any display include Flat Screen TV that is capablility of accepting and displaying a high-definition signal at either 720p, 1080i or 1080p using a component video or digital input.

1080p

In Flat Screen TV, 1080p can be referred to as Full HD or Full High Definition. The number 1080 represents 1080 lines of vertical resolution (1080 horizontal scan lines), while the letter p stands for progressive scan (meaning the image is not interlaced). The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels. In total, it has a frame resolution of 1920×1080, or 2,073,600 pixels ( ~ 2 Mega Pixels).

Progressive

The progressive system such as shown as 1080p in Flat Screen TV means it displays all of the scan lines at the same time. It eliminates flickering in screen images and provide beatutiful pictures.

Interlace

The interlace system switches the display between the odd-number scan lines and the even-number scan lines every 1/60th of a second.
